JOHAN ERNEST C. JUNCKER (now YOUNKER)

Hessian soldiers sailed from New York in Sept 1779 on the ship "Badger" and spent the winter on PEI.  On October 29th 1779 there arrived in PEI the Camilla Man of War that had on board 5 officers and 200 Hessian soldiers who were on passage from New York to Quebec.  These men remained on PEI until June of 1780 at which time they proceeded to Quebec.  It is told that some of these Hessians returned after some years from the heart of Germany.  Although Regt. Drummer Johan Ernst C. Juncker was assigned to the Leibkompanie Knyphausen, he sailed from New York in Sept 1779 on the ship "Badger" instead of with the remainder of his company on the ship "Molly".  Thus he spent the winter on Prince Edward Island instead of being captured at sea.

Johan Ernest Juncker died January 1781 in New York.  On Nov. 20th 1783, in Ziegenenhain, documents granting permission for the marriage of Wilhelm Fischer and Johan Juncker's widow  were granted by Wilhelm's commanding officer Gen. Von Knyphausen..... "therefore, if no other cause exists to prevent this union, and upon showing receipt of payment of the usual 8 Krenzer marriage fee to the Electorate's Army Finance Office, the marriage between these two may take place".

On Dec. 4th 1783 in Zeigenhain, a second document stating Wilhelm Fischer and widow Anne Marie have shown that permission had been granted for them to marry.
"Notice is herewith published that the drummer of the Knyphausen Regiment (by the name of) Wilhelm Fischer of Treysa, thirty six years of age ------------ who is the invalid Kasper Fischer of Treysa; and Anna Maria of Berva Amts Neukirchen age thirty five, and daughter of the deceased villager Konrad Muhler who is the widow of Johannes Juncker, deceased Regimental drummer in the Knyphausen Regiment, who died almost two years ago, therefore the above Wilhelm Fischer and widow Anna Maria have shown evidence of the permission to marry which they have been granted by his Excellency Lt .Gov. von Kynphausen, dated Nov. 20th."

The permission also stipulated and requests proof of payment of the marriage fee.  Having given proof that they are not related by blood, and also that they were both in America with the regiment, their request for betrothal was granted.  For the purpose of legal protocol they were then administered the oath in the civil ceremony, declaring their intentions to change their singular, unmarried status.  They requested the recording of this for legal purposes.  Thus after the grooms father had personally granted his permission for the union, and after the bride, Anna Maria, swore her oath, which was witnessed by the Fusilier Johann George Weickerssen, the legal guardian of the betrothed's son from her first marriage, nothing furter stood in the way of granting their request and the oath in the civil ceremony was administered to them.  Signed by Garrison Auditor Gunther.

On Dec 4th 1783 they were administered the oath in the Civil Ceremony. The third document is the Marriage contract.  All participants in the early part of this story resided in the villages of Merzhausen, Willingshausen, Treysa, Ziegenhain and Neukirchen in Schwalm Valley.  Since they lived and worked within walking distance of each other, these persons may have been acquainted with Johannes Schwalm.

The Fischers returned to PEI.   With them came Konrad Juncker, son of Maria, who was a boy of twelve at the time and their little daughter Catherain born at Zeighain on October 30th, 1784 and baptised 2 November, 1784. After their arrival on PEI Wilheim Fischer received a grant of land near Charlottetown, and became a farmer.  He served his time in the local militia, and when he was released from duty, his discharge papers (1802) tell us that he was 56 yrs of age, five feet seven inches tall, with a dark complexion and grey eyes.  Wilheim died May 25, 1807. Maria died mid July 1832.  Maria's estate was administered by her son-in-law, Christian Boisner.

Conrad Younker married Ruth Myers in 1797.  Ruth was born in New York City on June 7, 1782. She came to PEI with her Loyalist father, Jeremiah, in the summer of 1786.
Twelve children were born of this union: William, Mary, George, Catherine, Jane, Christian, Barbara, David, Elizabeth, Martha, John Cornelius and Ann Margaret.  Conrad died 17 January 1849 aged 76 and Ruth lived to the grand old age of 100 years and died May 18, 1882.

Catherine Fischer and Christian Boisner were married December 21, 1805.  They had eleven children: Maria, William, Eustace, Frederick, Conrad, Christian Augustus, Caroline (died young), Ruth, Margaret, Augustus, Elizabeth, and Charles.  Christian died November 9th 1831 aged 58 and Catherine died October 26, 1854 aged 70.  With her death the Fischer line, as such, ended.

Into this family is also woven the story of the George Weckesser (George Vickerson) family. Incomplete data indicates he brought his wife and two children, Wilheim and Anne Maria to PEI in 1787, having been discharged from the army at Zeigenhain sometime after January 1785.   The recording of the marriage of Wilheim Fischer and Anne Maria Juncker shows Weckesser as a witness, and the guardian of Konrad Juncker, son of Anne Maria by her first marriage.   George Weckesser was married to Anna Barbara Juncker.  The close affiliation of these two families lends credence to the supposition that Anna Barbara was the other child of Christian Ernst Juncker and Anne Maria.  The first child of George and Anna Barbara was born in Zeigenhain Feb 25th 1784. The Regiment von Knyphausen sailed from New York Aug 15th 1783 and arrived back in Zeigenhain October 16, 1783. This would indicate that the child Wilheim was conceived in America. Thus there is another thread of evidence that the drummer Ernest Juncker took his family with him to America in August of 1776. While Weckesser and Anna Barbara were probably married in New York, no record has yet been found.  The godparents of their second child, Anne Maria, were Wilheim and Anna Maria Fischer.
